SAZ Urges IT Companies to get Certified

The Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) has urged players in the IT sector to get certification and conform to national and international requirements so as to improve local product quality.

Statistics from SAZ reveal that only one local company is certified under the IT sector. Of the 128 standard projects currently being worked on none is from the IT sector. Of the numerous enquiries that come in to SAZ every month, non are from the IT sector.

This, among other things, has resulted in the non-representation of the IT sector in the SAZ general council.

SAZ was formed in 1957 and incorporated in 1960 as the Standards Association of Rhodesia and Nyasaland (SARN) ans is the national standards body (NSB) of Zimbabwe. To date, it has published 1440 Zimbabwean standards and is a signatory to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) code of good practice for the preparation, adoption and application of standards.

Companies certified by SAZ are able to better compete at an international level as they go through a rigorous process of implementation of systems and standards in every process that makes up the running of the business.

The IT sector would benefit by having more certified companies as IT service levels would go up the overall image of the IT sector in Zimbabwe would improve.
