NewZimbabwe.com has won two awards for Best Website and Best News Service at the inaugural ZimAwards held in Coventry over the weekend.

New Zimbabwe Media Group CEO Jeff Madzingo was on hand to receive the awards.
“This is for our readers who make it so worthwhile to expend effort trying to deliver the Zimbabwean story to every household around the world,” Madzingo said.

The New Zimbabwe.com website is currently being redesigned. The new website will have exciting new sections including galleries, blogs, an events guide and daily polls.

The ZimAwards are the brainchild of Zimbabwean businessman, Danai Gombera and are designed to “reward hard working Zimbabwean businesses in the UK”.

Thousands of Zimbabweans voted online for the winners in 16 categories.

Speaking during the ceremony at the Britannia Hotel in Coventry last Saturday, Gombera said: “This event is for all Zimbabweans and we thank God that we have set the right foundation. We will strive to work hard and achieve even higher standards.”

Warriors skipper and Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari picked up a second award inside a month after bagging an AfroBrit for Male Achiever of the Year.

On Saturday, Mwaruwari was honoured as Zimbabwe’s Sports Personality of the Year.

Mukuru.com, an online Zimbabwean supermarket, swept the boards with three awards for Best Groceries Supplier, Best Fuel Supplier and Best Money Transfer.

Wilf Mbanga, editor of The Zimbabwean newspaper received an award for Life Time Achievement “for pioneering independent media”.

Singer Decibel was the star performer on the night.
